German ace Martin Smolinski returns to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix stage in Teterow as wild card for the AZTORIN German SGP on August 31.
The 2018 FIM Long Track World Championship winner, who leads this season’s series, dons the famous No.16 race jacket at the Bergring Arena.
The 2014 New Zealand SGP winner served as track reserve at last year’s German SGP, scoring a point from four rides.
But he recorded eight points in both the 2016 and 2017 German SGPs, reaching the semis in the first year.
He could book his spot in SGP 2020, as he rides in the GP Challenge at Croatian track Gorican on August 24, where the top three earn full-time World Championship places.
The Munich-born man regularly represents his country in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations and scored 11 points at Race Off 1 in Landshut on May 4 to help Germany to their second straight Finals. Their 2018 Finals appearance in Wroclaw was the nation’s first world final of the 21st century.
Smolinski sat out this summer’s Monster Energy SON Finals to support his partner Veronika, who was heavily pregnant with their first child.
The Bavarian is joined in Teterow by track reserves Kai Huckenbeck and Max Dilger, who wear the No.17 and No.18 race jackets respectively.
